"The Last Metro' Races to Blu-ray

Criterion is bringing another Francois Truffaut classic to Blu-ray, confirming a late-March street date for 'The Last Metro.'
Starring Gerard Depardieu and Catherine Deneuve, the 1980 Truffaut drama about lovers in occupied Paris evading the rise of Nazism, will receive its Blu-ray premiere on March 24. (Where it joins another recently-announced Criterion Truffaut release, 'The 400 Blows.')
Tech specs will feature BD-50 dual-layer presentation with remastered 1080p video and the original French soundtrack in uncompressed PCM 1.0 Mono (with newly-revised English subtitles).
Supplements include a pair of audio commentaries (one by author Annette Insdorf, and a second with actor Gerard Depardieu, historian Jean-Pierre Azéma, and Truffaut biographer Serge Toubiana), a deleted scene, new video interviews (with actresses Andréa Ferréol, Sabine Haudepin, and Paulette Dubost, assistant director Alain Tasma, and camera assistants Florent Bazin and Tessa Racine), Truffaut's 1958 short film "Une Histoire d’eau, an essay by Armond White, and the theatrical trailer.
Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $39.95.

Criterion Bringing Truffaut's '400 Blows' to Blu-ray

Criterion has announced its latest classic for Blu-ray, setting a late-March release for Francois Truffaut's 'The 400 Blows.'
The coming-of-age classic, which is largely cited as ground zero for the French Nouvelle Vague, will receive its high-def premiere on March 24.
Tech specs will feature BD-50 dual-layer presentation with remastered 1080p video and the original French soundtrack in uncompressed PCM 1.0 Mono (with optional English subtitles).
Supplements include a pair of audio commentaries (one by cinema professor Brian Stonehill, another by François Truffaut’s lifelong friend Robert Lachenay), rare audition and newsreel footage, a TV excerpt and interview with Truffaut, an essay by film scholar Annette Insdorf, and the theatrical trailer.
Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $29.99.

Criterion Delays First Wave of Blu-rays

On the eve of its next-gen launch, Criterion has bumped the release of its initial wave of Blu-ray titles by over a month.
As first announced earlier this Fall, Criterion had planned a batch of five classic titles for Blu-ray release this month, with all now being pushed back to later in the year.
'The Third Man', 'The Man Who Fell to Earth,' 'Bottle Rocket', and 'Chungking Express,' have all now been bumped to December 16. 'The Last Emperor,' will follow on January 6.
Criterion has not cited any reason for the delay, nor any changes in specs or pricing information. As always, we'll keep you posted of any changes or further delays to Criterion's line-up.
In light of the news, we've updated the listings for all five titles in our Blu-ray Release Schedule, which now reflects the new street dates.

Criterion Announces 'El Norte' for Blu-ray

The Criterion Collection has announced its latest Blu-ray title, setting a late-January date for 'El Norte.'
Directed by Gregory Nava, the critically-acclaimed immigrant drama will receive its Blu-ray premiere on January 20. (Criterion previously-released the film on standard DVD as a special edition.)
There are no tech or supplement specs as of yet, but a package comparable to the DVD version is expected. We'll keep you posted.
Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $39.95.
